Pay Button

The Stripe integration with WishList Member was developed to create a shortcode for a payment button that gets inserted onto a page or post. A user can click that button and the payment popup will appear so they can purchase and register to gain access to the membership site.

But, there are also options you can use to insert either an image as the payment button or use a text link for payment/registration. These options provide a bit more flexibility when it comes to how your Stripe payment button or link will appear.

The information in this Knowledge base entry assumes you have set up the integration between WishList Member and Stripe on your site.

Inserting a Stripe Payment Button onto a Page

WishList Member mergecodes or shortcodes can be inserted onto a page or post by using a Classic Block in the WordPress Gutenberg editor. More details on using the Gutenberg editor to insert shortcodes can be found in this Knowledge base entry.

You can insert a Stripe payment button onto a page by clicking the blue WishList Member icon > Integrations > Stripe Integration > *Level Name* in a Classic Block.

Stripe Payment Button

Once you have inserted the Stripe payment button shortcode onto the page, you will see the code in the edit page section.

Stripe Payment Button Shortcode

The Stripe payment button will now appear on the live page. Please note, the look and design of the button is based on the theme being used on the site.

Stripe Payment Button

If you want to create your own payment button or make it a text payment link, you can insert your own image/text into the shortcode. Once you have set up the integration with Stripe, you can insert the shortcode using the method above or by manually using the following shortcode format:

[wlm_stripe_btn sku=XXXXXXXXXX] [/wlm_stripe_btn]

You will just need to insert the image or text you want into the shortcode. More details on each option is included below.

You will also need to replace XXXXXXXXXX with the SKU of your product in Stripe if you copy and paste the example shortcode above.

The SKU will be automatically included if you insert the shortcode using the WishList Member code inserter.

You can also easily copy the payment button shortcode in the Setup > Integrations > Payment Providers > Stripe > Products section of WishList Member.

WishList Member Integration with Stripe

Create Stripe Text Link

Below is an example of a Stripe shortcode that could be inserted and would show a “Click Here to Buy” text link. The words “Click Here to Buy” have been added to the shortcode in this case. You could copy the example shortcode below and replace those words with the text of your choosing.

[wlm_stripe_btn sku=1595524093 button_label="Join %level" pay_button_label="Pay"] Click Here to Buy [/wlm_stripe_btn]

The screenshot below shows that shortcode inserted into a WordPress page.

WishList Member Integration with Stripe Shortcode

That text payment link will now be displayed on the live site. Anyone who clicks that link will see the payment popup powered by Stripe and can purchase access to the membership.

Stripe Payment Link

Create a Stripe Payment Button/Image

Below is an example of a shortcode that could be inserted and would show an image as the payment button. The example uses a Buy Now image that has been uploaded to the Media section of the WordPress site.

You can use a Classic Block in the Gutenberg Editor and select the Edit as HTML option.

Edit as HTML

You can then paste in the following shortcode.

[wlm_stripe_btn sku=1595524093] <img src="urloftheimage" />[/wlm_stripe_btn]

The URL of the image (“urloftheimage”) would need to match the URL of the image file in your WordPress site Media section.

This example includes some additional formatting being applied to the button.

[wlm_stripe_btn sku=1595524093 button_label="Join %level" pay_button_label="Pay"] <img class="alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-40" src="https://wlmtest.com/wray/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/buy-now.png" alt="" width="150" height="52" />[/wlm_stripe_btn]
WishList Member Integration with Stripe Shortcode

That payment button/image will now be displayed on the live site. Anyone who clicks that button will see the payment popup powered by Stripe and can purchase access to the membership.

WishList Member Integration with Stripe Payment Button

The options mentioned above allow you to apply some additional customization to the shortcode so the button or text link appear how you would like.

Member Payment and Registration - WishList Member

Accepting payments to provide access to a membership is a common need for many site owners. Ensuring the process of users being able to pay and register as simply as possible is important. You want the member payment and registration process to be quick and easy for the user and reliable for you as the site owner.

There are many different online payment providers available and each one has their own set of features and functionality. They also tend to handle the processing of payments a bit differently from each other which means you likely have your own favourite option. WishList Member can be integrated with any payment provider based on the available integration methods

Payment and Registration Process

Once you have integrated with a payment provider, you will be able to insert the payment button or link onto any page or post on your site. Anyone who can view that page or post can use that payment button to start the payment and registration process.

WishList Member automatically takes care of displaying the registration form after a payment has been made through an integrated payment provider. Basically, you don’t need to create your own registration form as that is handled by WishList Member if you have integrated with an option in the Setup > Integrations > Payment Providers section.

Member Payment and Registration - WishList Member

A user clicks to pay and makes their purchase through the integrated payment provider. They are then able to fill out the registration form to become a member.

So, the user will make the payment and will be able to register to complete the creation of their member account.

More details on integrating with a payment provider is available right here.

Custom Registration Form

One thing to note is you do have the option of creating and applying a custom registration form if you would like to collect additional information not included on the standard registration form.

This can be done in the Advanced Options > Registrations > Custom Forms section in WishList Member.

Member Payment and Registration - WishList Member

This form can include extra fields, check boxes, dropdown fields and more.

Member Payment and Registration - WishList Member

More details on custom registration forms is available right here.

Payment Providers that Automatically Create the Member Account

There are some payment providers that will create the member account for the user right after that user has paid. This is related to the fact that some payment providers handle the processing of payments differently and offer different features and functionality.

This means some integrated payment providers won’t display the registration form after payment because that form is unnecessary in those cases. The member doesn't need to fill in the registration form because their account is automatically created after successful payment and the New Member Registration email is sent to them with their username and password.

An example of payment provider integrations with WishList Member that automatically create the member account are included below.

Set WishList Member to Automatically Create an Account for Members

Another option to consider is setting WishList Member to automatically create the member account after a successful payment. Similar to the mentioned payment provider integrations that will automatically create the member account, there is an option for you to set WishList Member to create the account for the member.

This would result in the member not needing to fill out a registration form after payment. They would instead have an account created for them using either their email address or a generated username along with a generated password. The information would be sent to them after their purchase in the New Member Registration email.

You can enable this option in the Setup > Levels > *Click to edit Level > Registrations section in WishList Member.

The option is named “Enable Auto-Created Accounts for Integrations”.

You can Click Here for more details on enabling and using the Enable Auto-Created Accounts for Integrations option. It includes information on setting the username and using a potential delay before creating the member account.

You have a few different options available to you when it comes to the member payment and registration process. This allows you to choose a method that suits you and your members.

WishList Member includes an integration with SendOwl. You can set users to be automatically added to a Membership Level in WishList Member if they purchase a product through SendOwl.

More details are explained below (including a Video Tutorial).

Enable SendOwl Integration

First, you can select and enable the SendOwl option in the Setup > Integrations > Payment Providers section of WishList Member.

The Settings tab will appear and three fields will be displayed.

  • API Endpoint
  • Digest Auth Username
  • API Key / Digest Auth Password

The API Endpoint and API Key are the pieces of information needed to connect WishList Member and SendOwl.

Connecting WishList Member and SendOwl

The API Endpoint and API Key from WishList Member can be copied and pasted into the corresponding fields in the Settings > SendOwl Checkout > Membership Plugins > WishList Member section on the SendOwl site.

Once you enter the API Endpoint and API Key in SendOwl, you can click the blue Update button.

A message stating “Membership service details updated” will appear as shown in the screenshot above.

WishList Member and SendOwl are now connected and the integration process can continue.

Integrating SendOwl Products with WishList Member

You can create a product in the Products section of SendOwl. You can then integrate that product with WishList Member so anyone who buys that product will also be added to a corresponding Level in WishList Member.

Click to edit a Product.

You can configure the WishList Member settings for the product when editing the product. This can be done in the Edit Product > Advanced Options > Membership Level section.

Set the Membership Level to be applied to the user when they purchase the SendOwl product using the Membership Level drodpdown.

This will result in a Member account being created in the Members > Manage section of WishList Member and the selected Membership Level being applied to that Member.

The screenshot example below shows the users will be added to the Silver Level when they purchase the product.

Note: The list of Membership Levels is being pulled from the Setup > Levels section in WishList Member.

Selling your Product (with Connected Membership Level)

The last step is dependent on how you want to manage your sales page.

SendOwl provides a variety of selling options for a product. These options can be viewed using the “Sell Product” link on the bottom of the Edit Product section.

You can use the available Payment Links and add the option to purchase on your sales page or use it to create a purchase button. Or you can use the social media buttons or provided code to create purchase buttons or links.

The process of connecting your SendOwl product to a Level within WishList Member is complete. Anyone who purchases the SendOwl product will be automatically added to the Level in WishList Member.

The Stripe integration within WishList Member includes the option to provide a Prorated Payment.

This means a user can purchase a subscription to gain access to a Level and could then decide to purchase an additional Level and their subscription would be automatically calculated for the new amount. Stripe handles all the calculations to set the proration amount.

Note: Stripe handles the processing and calculation of the payment and the prorated amount that will be billed on the next billing cycle. This means the payment on the next billing cycle will be the payment for that billing cycle plus the discrepancy of the payment for the prorated Level.

Please note, this functionality is only used with a Stripe Payment Plan (recurring billing).

Enable Proration Payments

There is an “Allow Proration for this Level” checkbox when editing a Stripe Product for a Level in WishList Member. This is available when editing a Stripe Product in the Setup > Integrations > Payment Providers > Stripe section of WishList Member.

Proration Example

The Silver Level is a $10/month subscription and the Gold Level is a $20/month subscription.

Below is a screenshot example of a page with purchase buttons for both levels that have been generated using the WishList Member integration with Stripe.

A user purchases the Silver Level and the $10/month subscription is set up in Stripe. That same user decides to buy the Gold Level a week later so they are able to select the Prorated Plan option while purchasing.

Note: The user must be logged in to see the Prorate Plan option on the order form.

If they are not logged in, they will see the following message.

Logged in users with the Silver Level will see the Prorate Plan section on the order form and can select the Upgrade an Existing Plan option.

So a user with the Silver Level can use that Prorate Option to purchase an upgrade to the Gold Level.

As an example, a user purchases the Silver Level for $10 and then purchases the prorated Gold Level for $20.

In this case, Stripe will show the payment total for the next billing cycle is $20 (the next billing cycle) + $10 (the discrepancy in price between the first Level and the new Level just purchased)

Note: the price amount discrepancy may vary depending on how long the user has been in the first Level before they purchased the prorated option for the new Level. But Stripe handles this calculation automatically.

To summarize, the Gold Level is $20/month but since they are already a member of the Silver Level ($10/month) they can purchase the Gold Level using the Prorated Plan option and would then pay $20/month moving forward.

So they would pay $30 total for that billing cycle and then $20 each billing cycle moving forward.

You also have the option of removing the user from the previous Level in WishList Member once they have upgraded to the new Level. That would mean the user is only in the Gold Level (and no longer in the Silver Level) if the “Remove from Previous Level after Prorated” setting was enabled for the Gold Level Product.

The WooCommerce integration includes a Global Member Pricing option. Setting a Global Member Price would apply the Member Pricing to all products for the membership level. We get into the details of WooCommerce Global Member Pricing below.

As an example, this means you could set a 50% off discount for all products to the members in the Special Bonus level.

The Global Pricing option is applied to ALL products for the specified membership level.

The option to create Global Pricing is also available when editing a Level in WishList Member.

Please Note: The WooCommerce plugin will need to be installed on the site in order to set up or use the integration with WishList Member.

More details on the initial setup and overview are available in the WooCommerce Integration – Overview documentation.

Details on additional settings and options included in the WishList Member / WooCommerce integration are included at the bottom of this article.

WooCommerce Member Pricing section

You will see the option to create a Global Member Price in the WooCommerce > Settings > Products > Member Pricing section. Different discount types are available for you to select.

The first step is selecting the membership level that will get the Global Member Pricing for the WooCommerce Product. In this example the membership level is named Special Bonus.

Note: Multiple membership levels can be setup.

WooCommerce Global Member Pricing - WishList Member

Note: There is an Add New option in the Membership Level dropdown. This can be used to quickly create a new level if needed. It would be created using the default membership level settings.

WooCommerce Global Member Pricing - WishList Member

Select the desired level and click the Add button.

You will see additional settings appear under the selected membership level. The screenshot example below shows the Special Bonus level selected.

Note: The Description field will appear as the product description on the live site.

The Global Pricing options are also displayed.

There are three Pricing Types available:

  • Fixed Price
  • Fixed Discount
  • Percentage Discount
WooCommerce Global Member Pricing - WishList Member

Fixed Price

The price for the selected membership level is the specific amount you enter into the Amount field. The screenshot example below shows a Global Price with the set Fixed Price of $10.

This means anyone in the Special Bonus level can purchase any products on the site for the $10 price.

WooCommerce Global Member Pricing - WishList Member

Fixed Discount

The price for the selected membership level is based on the discount you enter into the Amount field. The screenshot example below shows the set Fixed Discount is $7.

This means anyone in the Special Bonus level can purchase any products on the site for the original price with a $7 discount.

Percentage Discount

The price for the selected membership level is based on the percentage you enter into the Amount field. The screenshot example below shows a product with the set Percentage Discount of 25.

This means anyone in the Special Bonus level can purchase any products on the site for the original price with a 25% discount.

WooCommerce Global Member Pricing - WishList Member

You can set the Global Member Pricing accordingly for all WooCommerce products.

Members in Multiple Membership Levels (Affect on Global Member Pricing)

It can be common to have members in multiple membership levels. If there are multiple prices set up for different membership levels and there are members who are in those membership levels, which Global Member Price would they be shown for the product?

This is based on the ordering of the Global Member Pricing.

The order controls the Global Member Price for those in multiple levels.

The screenshot example below shows two Global Member Pricing options set. One for the Special Bonus membership level (25% Percentage Discount) and another for the Manager membership level ($10 Fixed Price).

The Special Bonus Global Member Pricing option is highest on the list so if a member belongs to both the Special Bonus level and the Manager level, they would be shown the Global Member Pricing set for Special Bonus.

The items on the list can be dragged and dropped to set the priority. (Top of list is highest priority).

WooCommerce Global Member Pricing - WishList Member

All Levels

There is an option to set Global Member Pricing for All Levels.

In this case, the Global Member Pricing option would be applied to ALL products for ALL membership levels.

The “All Levels” option can be selected from the Membership Level dropdown and the desired price set accordingly.

WooCommerce Global Member Pricing - WishList Member

The screenshot example below shows the All Levels option selected with a Global Member Price set with a Percentage Discount of 50.

This means anyone in any level can purchase any products on the site for the original price with a 50% discount.

Note: The All Levels option for Global Members Pricing cannot be dragged and dropped on the list (if there are multiple pricing options set). It always remains on top of the list and doesn't include the drag and drop icon as the All Levels option is seen as the default Global Members Price when used.

More details on the initial setup and overview are available in the WooCommerce Integration – Overview documentation.

Details on additional settings and options included in the WishList Member / WooCommerce integration are included at the bottom of this article.

You can set a Member Price for a product category in WooCommerce. This means any product in that category would have the Member Pricing applied for membership level(s).

Member Pricing for categories can be used when you want to apply a special price to all products in a category.

Note: If a product is in a category and that category has a Category Member Price set, you can set a different Member Price on a specific product within that category and that would override the Category Member Price. Basically, the Product Member Price would be used instead of the Category Member Price in that case.

You can set Member Pricing when creating a category or editing a category in WooCommerce.

Creating a Category:

WooCommerce Product Category Member Pricing

Editing a Category:

WooCommerce Product Category Member Pricing

We will focus on the Editing a Category section in this example but these options also apply when creating a category.

The Member Pricing option is where you can set a special price for the category. Different discount types are available for you to select.

The first step is selecting the membership level that will get the Member Price for the WooCommerce Product Category. In this example the category is named Discounted Products.

Note: Multiple membership levels can be setup.

There is an Add New option in the Membership Level dropdown. This can be used to quickly create a new level if needed. It would be created using the default membership level settings.

WooCommerce Product Category Member Pricing

Select the desired level(s) and click the Add button.

You will see additional settings appear under the selected membership level. The screenshot example below shows the Module 1 level selected.

Note: The Description field will appear as the product description on the live site.

WooCommerce Product Category Member Pricing

Category Pricing Types

There are three Pricing Types available:

  • Fixed Price
  • Fixed Discount
  • Percentage Discount

We will run through the three pricing types below and how they can affect a pricing for a WooCommerce product category.

Fixed Price

The price for the selected membership level is the specific amount you enter into the Amount field. The screenshot example below shows a product category with a set Fixed Price of $5.

This means anyone in the Module 1 level can purchase any products in the Discounted Products category for the $5 price.

Fixed Discount

The price for the selected membership level is based on the discount you enter into the Amount field. The screenshot example below shows the set Fixed Discount is $10.

This means anyone in the Module 1 level can purchase any products in the Discounted Products category for the discounted price (Original Price – $10 = discounted price).

WooCommerce Product Category Member Pricing

Percentage Discount

The price for the selected membership level is based on the percentage you enter into the Amount field. The screenshot example below shows the set Percentage Discount is 35.

This means anyone in the Module 1 level can purchase any products in the Discounted Products category for the discounted price (Original Price – 35% = discounted price).

Note: You can set multiple pricing options for additional membership levels. Each membership level could have it’s own price for a category.

The screenshot example below shows a category with two pricing options set for two different membership levels.

The Module 1 membership level can purchase the product for $2.

The Module 2 membership level can purchase the product for $4.

WooCommerce Product Category Member Pricing

Members in Multiple Membership Levels (Affect on Category Pricing)

It can be common to have members in multiple membership levels. If there are multiple prices set up for different membership levels and there are members who are in those membership levels, which Member Price would they be shown for the product?

This is based on the ordering of the pricing for the category.

The order controls the discount for those in multiple levels.

The screenshot example below shows a category with two pricing options set. One for the Module 1 membership level ($2 price) and another for the Module 2 membership level ($4 price).

The Module 1 pricing option is highest on the list so if a member belongs to both the Module 1 level and the Module 2 level, they would be shown the price set for Module 1.

WooCommerce Product Category Member Pricing

Note: If a product is in a category that has Member Pricing set, the price of that product will be determined by those category pricing settings.

But if a product in that category has it’s own pricing set, the specific product pricing will override the category pricing.

This means if a product has it’s own Member Pricing set, that will be shown to those in the assigned membership level regardless of any WooCommerce Product Category Member Pricing.

This integration also includes the ability to apply discounts/unique pricing options (Member Pricing) to WooCommerce products for users in specific membership levels. You can set a membership level to get a fixed price, a fixed discount or a percentage discount.

You can even set discounts based on the product category in WooCommerce. These are just a few examples and we get into more details below.

You can set a special price for a WooCommerce product for membership levels. This means anyone in the set membership level(s) would be able to pay the special price for the specified products. This is called Member Pricing. We get into the details of WooCommerce Member Pricing below.

Editing a Product – Member Pricing

Once you have a product in WooCommerce, you can edit the product and scroll down to the WishList Member section. It will appear on the left side just below the content area. You will see two tabs: Access and Pricing.

WooCommerce Member Pricing

Note: The WishList Member > Pricing option shown in the screenshot above can be used to set Member Pricing for membership levels.

Here is where you can set a Member Price for membership levels. Different discount types are available for you to select.

The first step is selecting the membership level that will get the Member Pricing for the WooCommerce Product. In this example the product is named Product 1.

Note: Multiple membership levels can be setup.

WooCommerce Member Pricing

There is also an Add New option in the Membership Level dropdown. This can be used to quickly create a new level if needed. It would be created using the default membership level settings.

Select the desired level and click the Add button.

WooCommerce Member Pricing

You will see additional settings appear under the selected membership level. The screenshot example below shows the Silver level selected.

Note: The Description field will appear as the product description on the live site.

Product Pricing Types

There are three Pricing Types available:

  • Fixed Price
  • Fixed Discount
  • Percentage Discount

We will run through the three pricing types below and how they can affect pricing for a WooCommerce product.

Fixed Price

The price for the selected membership level is the specific amount you enter into the Amount field. The screenshot example below shows a product with a $15 original price. The set Fixed Price is $10.

This means anyone in the Silver level can purchase Product 1 for the $10 price.

WooCommerce Member Pricing

Fixed Discount

The price for the selected membership level is based on the discount you enter into the Amount field. The screenshot example below shows a product with a $15 original price. The set Fixed Discount is $7.

This means anyone in the Silver level can purchase Product 1 for the discounted $8 price ($15 – $7 = $8).

Percentage Discount

The price for the selected membership level(s) is based on the percentage you enter into the Amount field. The screenshot example below shows a product with a $15 original price. The set Percentage Discount is 25.

This means anyone in the Silver level can purchase Product 1 for the discounted $11.25 price ($15 – 25% = $11.25).

WooCommerce Member Pricing

Note: You can set multiple pricing options for additional membership levels. Each membership level could have it’s own price for a product.

The screenshot example below shows a product with a $15 original price. It has two pricing options set for two different membership levels.

The Gold membership level can purchase the product for $9.

The Bronze membership level can purchase the product for $7.50.

Members in Multiple Membership Levels (Affect on Product Pricing)

It can be common to have members in multiple membership levels. If there are multiple prices set up for different membership levels and there are members who are in those membership levels, which Member Price would they be shown for the product?

This is based on the ordering of the pricing for the product.

The order controls the Member Price for those in multiple levels.

The screenshot example below shows a product with two pricing options set. One for the Platinum membership level ($6 price) and another for the Diamond membership level ($9 price).

The Platinum pricing option is highest on the list so if a member belongs to both the Platinum level and the Diamond level, they would be shown the price set for Platinum.

The items on the list can be dragged and dropped to set the priority. (Top of list is highest priority).
