Issue certificates to members - WishList Member

You may have times when you would like to issue certificates to members on your site. Your site may offer a certification program and you would like to provide an actual certificate when a member completes a course. Or perhaps you would like to give a certificate to a member who you've noticed has been helping others within your community.

WishList Member doesn't include built in functionality to issue a certificate to a member. But there is an option that should work for you. It has to do with how member accounts are created in WishList Member.

Creating Members in WishList Member

Members are created in WishList Member using the WordPress user database. This means if you use a WordPress plugin that issues certificates to users, it could also be used to issue certificates to members.

A plugin that creates certificates often includes settings and options to customize the appearance of the certificate. You can likely include your site logo, adjust colors and tailor the certificate to fit your needs.

If this sounds appealing to you while setting up your membership site, issuing certificates to members could be something to add to your community.

WordPress User Certificate Plugins

A search for the term “User Certificates” in the WordPress Plugins directory provides a selection of available plugin options for issuing certificates.

Issue certificates to members - WishList Member

You can issue a certificate to members as a reward for accomplishing a goal or for participating within the community on your site. This can help encourage interaction among members and also boost member retention.

A Quiz can be added to any Course. This provides a number of useful options. This means users could be required to complete a Quiz before moving onto the next lesson within a Course. Or a set score must be achieved in order to pass a Quiz within a Course.

These are just a couple examples as there are many options available when using Quizzes and Courses.

Creating a Course and a Quiz

You will need to create a Quiz in the Quizzes section (if you haven't already created one).

Once you have your Quiz created, you just need to add it to the Course of your choice. So a Course will also need to be created if you haven't done that yet.

More info on creating a Course can be found in the Courses Overview.

Adding a Quiz to a Course

Once you have at least one course and quiz created, you can add a quiz at any point to a Course.

Click the Course Title or the pencil icon in the Courses > Course Builder section to edit the Course.

Click the arrow icon to the left of the Module to view the Lessons.

The Lessons within the Module will now be visible and you can click the “Add Quiz” button.

A field will appear that can be used to select the desired Quiz to be added. Any existing Quiz from the Quizzes section can be selected using this field.

Select the desired Quiz and click the green “Add Quiz” button. The Quiz will now be added to the last Lesson in the module.

The Up/Down arrow icon on the far right can be used to drag and drop the Quiz under the desired Lesson. This allows the Quiz to be added to any Lesson in the Module. The Quiz can also be dragged and dropped into a Lesson in another Module if desired. The Module would just need to be in expanded view to accept the Quiz.

The quiz has now been added to the lesson within the course and it can be viewed on the live site.

You can set who can and cannot access your courses. Each course can either require specific access to allow users to view it or a course can be available to anyone. This is done using the available Unprotected/Protected options.

The option to set protection and access for a course will appear if WishList Member is installed.

A full run down to create and setup a course is also available and be found in the Course – Setup Overview and Course Builder articles.

Protecting a Course Using WishList Member

A course can be set as Protected or Unprotected. This setting is located in the Courses > Course Builder > *Click to edit Course* > Access section if the WishList Member plugin is installed and activated on the site.

Protection and Access

Protected: Only users with assigned access can access the course.

Unprotected: Anyone can access the course.

The blue Unprotected/Protected slider can be used to set the protection status for the course in the Access tab. If the course is protected, the access settings can be configured.

If the course is set as protected, the desired membership level(s) can be set to access the course. Only users who have one or more of the set membership level(s) assigned to their account can access the course.

In the example below, only users who belong to the Platinum, Gold, Silver and/or Bronze levels can access the course.

Enable Preview: If Enabled, users can access a preview of the course content. The protected course content will be open and available to anyone if the preview option is enabled. This option overrides the protection settings for the course. Note: Lessons have their own preview option which can be set for each lesson individually in the Lesson Info section.

Enable Liner Course: If Enabled, users cannot progress to the next Lesson/Module unless the user has completed the current Lesson/Module. Users will need to click the “Next” button to progress through the course.

Pay Per Course Access

Another option to set protection and access for the course using WishList Member is Pay Per Course. Similar to the Pay Per Post option included with WishList Member, there is a Pay Per Course option included in CourseCure (when WishList Member is also used on the same site).

This allows for specific courses to be made available individually to users.

Shopping Cart Integration SKU: This can be used with the chosen integration option in the Setup > Integrations > Payment Providers section of WishList Member. The “Click here for integration instructions” link will direct to that section.

Allow Free Registration for this content: If enabled, anyone who can access the Free Registration URL can sign up for no cost.

Use this course as After Login Page if they have access to it: If enabled, the course will be displayed as the After Login page to those assigned to the Pay Per Course.

Clicking the blue Manage User Access button will display the Pay Per Course User Access pop up.

This will allow you to select the individual Members who can access the specific course.

The available search bar can be used to find the specific users and the green slider can be used to Enable/Disable their specific access.

CourseCure - Courses Styling

You can style the look and feel of your course, module and lesson pages using Courses Add-on in CourseCure and the WordPress Customizer. This allows you to really put your stamp on the course experience for your members. Choosing complimentary colors and setting the perfect text for titles and headings in your courses is easy and can make all the difference between a standard course and one that matches your unique style.

But the first step is selecting a template and color palette for your courses section. This will set the base design and formatting of your course section on the live site.

So, you can start by picking one of the professionally designed templates and you’re all set if you don’t want to adjust any of the available options. The provided templates look great and can be applied in a few seconds. Your selected template will automatically be applied to course, module and lesson pages. But you can also take that extra step and customize your chosen template to really make it stand out.

You can select your template and the color palette to be applied to that chosen template in the Courses > Settings > Styling section in CourseCure.

Select a Template and Color Palette

This allows you to have a choice of templates and colors. You can even clone an existing color palette and adjust the colors to create your own unique color palette. Then simply select it and it will be applied to your template.

You can start by clicking on the template of your choice. You will see a message stating the template has been selected. This means that template has now been applied and its formatting and color palette are being used on the site.

You can choose an existing default color palette or create a custom color palette of your own. A new color palette can be created by cloning an existing color palette and modifying it.

Mousing over an existing color palette will display the Clone Palette button on the top right.

You can click the Clone Palette button and the Create New Palette popup will appear. You can simply set a name for the new color palette and use the color pickers to select the desired colors for the listed areas.

The blue Save or green Save & Close button can be clicked once all settings are configured.

Once you select your color palette, a message stating it has been selected will appear.

Live Site Examples of Applied Template and Color Palette

Your selected template and color palette are now applied to the courses section on your site. Below is a screenshot example of how that appears with the template and color palette options chosen above.

Template 01 Example

Template 02 Example

You can easily set the formatting of your courses section and select a complimentary color palette when using the Courses Add-on in CourseCure. This allows you to decide on the look and feel of your courses and how they appear to your members. Using CourseCure with WishList Member allows for many creative options for courses on your site. One example is the ability for you to select a template and color palette to instantly update the appearance of your courses section.

You can select one of the provided templates along with a color palette and you’ll be all set in terms of the look and feel of your courses section. This will apply a professional design to your site in just a few seconds.

But, if you would like to make further adjustments to the buttons, colors and text within your courses, you have that option too. The flexibility of CourseCure really comes into play with the available options for how your course, module and lesson pages appear.

Edit the Appearance of Courses Using the WordPress Customizer

The WordPress Customizer can be used with CourseCure to allow for more specific edits and options.

This can be done using the individual CourseCure Page Settings for the Course page, Module page and Lesson page when using the WordPress Customizer. These options are global settings so that means when you edit the CourseCure Page Settings for a Course page, those settings will be automatically applied to all Course pages. The same goes for editing a Module page and editing a Lesson page. You only need to edit the CourseCure Page Settings once for each of those types of pages.

You can quickly access the CourseCure Page Settings in the WordPress Customizer by going to the Courses > Course Builder > *Click on Course to Edit* > Content section in CourseCure and clicking the View icon to view the corresponding page. The View icon appears as an Eye.

There is a View icon for Course, Module and Lesson shown in the screenshot example below.

In this example, the View Course page is being selected. But as noted, you can do this for a module page or a lesson page as well.

After clicking the View Course icon, the Course page will appear and you can click on the Customize link in the WordPress toolbar on the top of the page.

This will load the WordPress Customizer and you can click the CourseCure Page Settings option to view and edit any of the available settings. Since we are working with the Course Page in this example, any setting adjustments made will be applied to the main Course page for all courses.

There are a variety of options you can adjust so feel free to try different colors and text. You can change the color of text or the color of backgrounds. You can change the labels of buttons and titles.  You can even remove buttons you don’t want to appear.

You will see the edits made in real time as you make any adjustments. Once you are finished working with the available options, you can click the Publish button and your changes will be applied to the course section of your site.

As an example, clicking on a Select Color button allows you to pick a color for the corresponding area of the page. In this case, a green color has been selected for the Course Title, Course Overview, Course Categories and Course Info Bar Background Color while a white color was selected as the Course Info Bar Text Color.

In this case, the Start from Beginning Link Label was changed to RESTART and the Lesson Button Label was changed to Click Here.

As noted, you can also view a module or lesson page and use the CourseCure Page Settings in the WordPress Customize to adjust any of the available settings. Below are screenshot examples of the WordPress Customizer view of a module and lesson page.
